After Lab × Jérôme Masi

A meeting of two worlds

After Lab was born from a simple belief: some works deserve to travel beyond gallery walls. For this collaboration, we reached out to Jérôme Masi, an artist based in Annecy whose visual language - halfway between abstraction and storytelling - spoke to us immediately. Jérôme also took part in selecting the artists for this programme, bringing his eye and his expertise.

Jérôme Masi, The art of saying a lot with a little

A world built on balance

Jérôme Masi’s work focuses on the very essence of form and colour. Each element is carefully chosen for its meaning and its contribution to the whole, an approach that aims to provoke deep reflection despite the apparent simplicity of the works.

Balance is never a compromise. It is a deliberate tension between what fills the canvas and what is left empty, between the obvious and the implied. His understated compositions explore our inner silences, childhood and inner life, inviting each viewer to fill in the blanks in their own way.

The poncho as canvas

Color-blocking, freedom and movement

For After Lab, Jérôme approached the poncho as a creative surface in its own right. The challenge: to transpose his pictorial language - his bold colour blocks, his clean silhouettes - onto an everyday object built for movement, water and life outdoors.

Jérôme draws on a recurring motif in his work: the KIDS. These figures with their youthful silhouettes, beneath their colours and pop aesthetic, invite us to reflect on the passage of time. The Kids exist between past and present, and ask us questions about the future.

Water-resistant art

This poncho isn’t just a pretty sight in a photo. It’s designed to be lived in – to be worn after a wave, thrown into a bag, or left on the sand. Jérôme’s design actually gains something from this: on the fabric, in motion, and in the light, it takes on a quality that paper or canvas simply cannot capture.
